Original blues from this edgy eccentric dancing on the Canadian borderland are served up gritty-raw like the bitter cold climes he calls home. Tas Cru howls "obsessed bluesman" with every note sung and played.
Tas Cru is a rough Quebecois rendering meaning - Raw Potato. Credit for the moniker goes to an avid young fan who admires Tas' raw-edged vocals and peeled-bare slide guitar. Given Tas' bent on bowing to his home region's Quebecois influence the moniker was not much of a stretch, especially since much of Tas early career was spent playing Quebec's small cities and towns along the St. Lawrence river from Montreal to Riviere du Loup.
Tas' recently released (December, 2006) solo CD - "Biscuit" includes ten original songs. Following the wisdom of Sonny Boy who said, "The blues ain't about but what goes on between a man and a woman," the songs on this CD prove that Cru has lots of firsthand experience in these types of goings on. He's known both joy and misery but as only a mature man can explain, he knows that most of the time love isn't either of these things - "Hearin' Every Word" and "Cover My Love." The title cut, "Biscuit" in the blues tradition of double entendre, is a highlight as is "Black and Poor in New Orleans," both showing that Cru's art isn't always just about looking at his reflection in the mirror. |
